Most of my apples this year never reached the ground as they were eaten
on the trees. And those that did reach the ground were carried off
pretty promptly, either by squirrels or rats.

I have never had this happen to me before. Normally I get fed up with
clearing masses of small windfalls from the lawn, but not this year.

We're still overwhelmed with Bramleys, huge crop this year. Our
eating apples still have a lot on the trees too. There's lots of
windfalls under the Bramleys, some perfectly sound to use now.

My cooking apple crop was pathetic this year thanks to the weather.
However I did get a small number on the tree until the jackdaws started
eating them. I have seen birds pecking at the insects before but not
staying and pecking away at the rest of the apple until it inevitably
falls to the ground! In the end I picked what was left and took them
into the kitchen to finish ripening.
