Last year, one branch of my gooseberry bush reached the ground and seems
to have rooted. Two new strong shoots have emerged over this year. Id it
is a good bush, it will need to be dug up and moved to its own space, in
the autumn. BUT my question is when should I seperate it from the
existing bush? Having just picked all the fruit is this the best time to
cut the link, or should I leave it untill I am about to dig up and move
the new bush?

Many thanks

Might be worth cutting the branch a while before you disturb the roots to
give the new offshoot a chance to develop new roots.

Cheers

Gardening in West Cornwall, very mild, sheltered
from the West, but open to the North and East.

. The new shoots indicate it has rooted down to form a
separate root system of its own.

Cut the umbilical cord now. This will stimulate more root
growth, making a stronger plant for when you dig it up to
transplant.

I'd wait until early winter to move it, after the leaves
have fallen.
